The Cool District Librarian

The Cool DL, half of the Rhubarb and Custard crew of old, has taken up a new role, much to the dismay of The Committee. Tasked with finding the best empty roads, bathed in endless sunshine, littered with free beer pubs at every scenic viewpoint, and cake shops on every corner.

Clearly not Scotland, then.

Goodnight, old friend.

2024 Dragon, even more ridiculous

The Dragon has turned in to a Summer Camp

2023 Dragon

We won't talk about this one, it wasn't even a real Dragon.

Sunshine, dry, warm.

Never again.

Sunday 13 February 2022

60th Dragon Rally, slightly Sobatmasised.

Friday, lovely. GM and Obo Scribe pottered down in the dry and mild to Betsy, for a night's R&R at the Glan Aber Bunkhouse.

Joined later by Vera, The Mad Wrasse ( henceforth to be known as Mr Brulee) and The Public Relations Secretary, beer was tested for efficacy and flavour, food consumed and snoring undertaken overnight.

Saturday burst into life with a fry up, and then off to the Control at Conwy so we could then turn round and make to the site, the scene of a number of cataclysmic outbreaks of Trenchfoot over the years.

2022, the 60th Conwy & District MCC Dragon Rally, lived up to expectation.

Many arrived, took one look at the camping lake, collected their badges, and buggered off.

Some arrived, took one look at the camping lake, and set up their tents Then they collected their badges, collected their tents, and buggered off. Mr Brulee, the hat fits, wear it.

Some arrived, took one look at the camping lake, and set up their tents Then they collected their badges, and for some unfathomable reason, stayed.

The rain actually stopped at some point in the evening, but it made no odds. Mainly because it started again about 06:00 and settled in for the day.

Obo Scribe had a temporary heart attack when Igor refused point-blank to start. Liberal dosing with GT85 over the electrics resolved that issue, much to his relief.

And then it rained some more....

Norham 2021

 Masons Arms, Norham.

Oboto Sobatmas were, inevitably, utterly incompetent as ever.
Having managed to arrive at Mad Wrasse Fort in some semblance of order, they then completely failed to leave as a group and split up within 300 yards. Even for these buffoons, that may be some sort of record.
Not wanting to feel they had peaked too early in the trip, they managed to fail to leave a carpark as a group at the next stop.
I know.
It was like herding cats, I tell you.
Still, they managed to avoid most of the dampness, although things got gusty on the tops over Reeth and Middleton on Teesdale.
Sunday's hangovers were cured with a bit of time travel. Leaving Norham at 09:30, the nav said it was 3hrs 30mins home. Two hours of back lanes later, they found themselves 3 hours from home. A while after that, 144 miles from home, and then 30 miles later, guess what? 144 miles from home.
You couldn't make it up, you really couldn't.
What a bunch.
Bumbling idiocy, ably demonstrated by The Far East Correspondent, The Cool District Librarian, The Public Relations Secretary, Vera, The Grand Mahout, Mad Wrasse, Obo Scribe and Medial Malleolus.
